Building Wealth and Power: The Impact of Higher Purpose Co.'s Pitch Competition

Higher Purpose Co.’s mission is to build community wealth with Black residents in Mississippi by supporting the ownership of financial, cultural, and political power. As a valued partner in the CoBuilders Accelerator, Higher Purpose Co. supports Black-owned businesses from all over the state of Mississippi. Higher Purpose Co. membership is designed to offer Mississippi entrepreneurs the services and support for they need. This membership is designed for existing and growing businesses that fall within the seven priority sectors: beauty, food/agriculture, education, healthcare, housing, transportation, and art.



In partnership with Innovate Mississippi, Higher Purpose Co. Pitch Competition was held on May 10th at the Jackson Medical Mall in Jackson, MS. The event was designed to support small business owners and bring notoriety to their businesses. The competition was a showcase of the incredible talent, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit within the Black community. Entrepreneurs from across the state pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges, vying for cash prizes that could significantly boost their ventures.


Higher Purpose Co.'s Pitch Competition Winners

1st Place: Quantum Flow, Inc. - Martin McCurtis

1st Place: Quantum Flow, Inc. - Martin McCurtis ($5000) Martin McCurtis of Quantum Flow, Inc. took home the top prize of $5000. His innovative approach and commitment to excellence in the hair care industry and left a lasting impression on the judges, securing him the first-place spot.


2nd Place: Strands of Faith - Ameka Coleman ($3000)

2nd Place: Strands of Faith - Ameka Coleman ($3000) Ameka Coleman, representing Strands of Faith, was awarded the second-place prize of $3000. Her passion for her business and dedication to providing quality products shone through in her pitch.


3rd Place: JKL Hair & Skin Care - Lowell and Jasmine Hollinger ($2000)

3rd Place: JKL Hair & Skin Care - Lowell and Jasmine Hollinger ($2000) The third-place prize of $2000 went to Lowell and Jasmine Hollinger of JKL Hair & Skin Care. Their dynamic presentation and clear vision for their brand earned them a well-deserved spot among the winners.



The pitch competition not only provided financial support to these deserving entrepreneurs but also highlighted the significant role that Black-owned businesses play in the economic development of Mississippi. By bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, and community leaders, Higher Purpose Co. is one of the credible organization creating a supportive ecosystem where Black businesses can thrive.


Through events like these, Higher Purpose Co. is fostering a sense of community and collaboration among Black entrepreneurs. The competition served as a platform for networking, mentorship, and the exchange of ideas, further empowering participants to pursue their business goals with confidence and resilience.


As we celebrate the winners and all the participants of the 2024 HPC Pitch Competition, it’s clear that the future is bright for Black entrepreneurs in Mississippi. Higher Purpose Co. continues to be a driving force in building wealth and power within the Black community, ensuring that the economic landscape of Mississippi is more inclusive and equitable.
