Celebrating Black August with Mississippi Black Pages: Highlighting Black-Owned Businesses and Civic Engagement

Smiling Black Business Owners Celebrating Each Other

As we observe National Black Business Month this August, Mississippi Black Pages (MBP) is excited to announce our celebration of "Black August." This month-long initiative is dedicated to highlighting the vital contributions of Black-owned businesses across Mississippi and encouraging civic engagement within our community. We have an exciting lineup of activities and events to celebrate and support our local Black entrepreneurs while fostering a sense of unity and purpose.

The BOB Blog and Buy-in Series: Spotlight on Black-Owned Businesses

Throughout August, MBP will publish a series of dedicated blog posts under "The BOB Blog and Buy-in Series," spotlighting the remarkable Black-owned businesses that contribute to the rich tapestry of our local economy. These blogs will tell the stories of resilience, innovation, and success that define our community's entrepreneurial spirit. By sharing these narratives, we aim to inspire and encourage others to support and patronize Black-owned businesses in Mississippi.

In addition to highlighting these businesses, we are coordinating community buy-ins where we invite everyone to patronize these Black-Owned Businesses (BOBs) on the same day. By focusing our collective purchasing power, we can make a significant impact on these businesses, showing them our support and helping to sustain their growth. Stay tuned to our blog and social media for the schedule and details of our buy-in events. If you want to suggest a business for us to highlight, email us at info@msmblackpages.com.

Brew The Vote: Community Voter Registration Drive

Mississippi Black Pages is excited to announce "Brew The Vote," our voter engagement and voter registration drive happening on National Voter Registration Day. We're partnering with local coffee shops across Mississippi to offer a special treat for those who take action to ensure their voices are heard in upcoming elections. Anyone who completes a voter registration form at participating coffee shops will receive a complimentary coffee as a thank you for getting involved. This initiative is a perfect way to support Black-owned businesses and ensure your voice is heard in upcoming elections. To make this event even more impactful, we've launched a social media campaign asking our followers to tag their local coffee shop to see if they'd like to participate in "Brew The Vote." This grassroots effort is designed to rally our community and bring more local businesses into the fold, making it easy and enjoyable to register to vote.

Vibes and Votes: Empowering Our Community at Harmony Sports Bar in Bay Saint Louis

We're thrilled to introduce "Vibes and Votes," an event dedicated to empowering our local community by providing essential voter information, registration assistance, and fostering a sense of civic responsibility. The first iteration of Vibes and Votes will be hosted at Harmony Sports Bar on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM. This event aims to increase voter turnout and ensure that every voice in our community is heard. Join us for an evening of music, engagement, and empowerment as we come together to make a difference.

Why Black August Matters

Black August is more than just a celebration; it's a recognition of the economic and social contributions of Black-owned businesses and the importance of civic engagement. Black-owned businesses are essential to the economic vitality of our state, and supporting them is a way to strengthen our community. At the same time, voting is a powerful tool that allows us to influence policies and leadership that affect our daily lives and business environment.

Celebrate Black August With Mississippi Black Pages

We invite you to join MBP in celebrating Black August. Follow our blog series, attend the Sunset Beach Party, join us for Vibes and Votes, and take advantage of our Coffee for a Cause initiative.
